Customs step up inspections on yacht arrivals in Palma

May 21, 2024

Following the recent boarding by Customs and Excise officials of a sailing yacht arriving in Palma, we want to remind you of applicable limits of cash, alcohol, tobacco, and other goods.

Customs officers escorted and boarded the yacht upon arrival, and carried out an intensive search lasting three hours. ESTELA attended the situation, to mediate and diffuse a tense situation.

Without indicating whether they were looking for anything specific, officers gathered together all alcohol on board, which amounted to some fifty bottles of wine and spirits. The captain was instructed to attend the Palma customs office the following day, in order to make a formal declaration and pay any applicable duties and fines.

While no reason was given for this inspection, it serves as a reminder that all yachts arriving into Spain from a non-EU country must submit a customs declaration of goods that exceed personal allowances.

If in any doubt about limits and required declarations, please consult a licensed yacht agent.
